It was Christmas time when I was inspired to create something new. In my local garden centre there were some fantastic Christmas displays in crates. I thought, this is what I want for my Nursery! I asked them where I could find them but instead they gave me 2! Back at the Nursery I stacked them on top of one another, displayed some books and added some fairy lights. I found that suddenly children who were reluctant readers, were showing an interest in books.

I went back to the garden centre and told them of my Christmas story and they gave me 11 more in return for a £10 donation to their lifeboat charity. They became a Provision Project and with a bit of TLC, replacing bits of the rotten wood, and giving them a good sanding down they were ready.

The crates have really transformed the provision in my classroom and are so versatile allowing me to refresh areas and keep the children engaged. Not only do I use them for displaying books but also for small world, and to provoke interest at the beginning of our topic. They have transformed small world particularly, and the children love to play and explore.
